Cruise Control: Understanding Sex Addiction In Gay Men

Cruise Control: Understanding Sex Addiction In Gay Men

Robert Weiss, director of the Sexual Recovery Institute in Santa Monica, California, avoids political and moral arguments and instead focuses on the clinical approach, asking the question, “Is your sexual behavior causing problems in other areas of your life?” Cruise Control leads men to a better understanding of the difference between sexual compulsion and non-addictive sexual behavior within the gay experience, and it explains what resources are available for recovery. A timely and important contribution to the body of recovery literature, Cruise Control provides understanding, empathy and encouragement to gay men seeking healthy sexual expression.

Customer Review: Every gay man should read this book.
I am proud to have written this book. When I went through my own past struggles with addiction, there was nothing for me to read that offered the kind of information and direction that truly reflected my own struggle. I feel that this work really offers any gay man struggling with his sexual behavior - a real chance to evaluate his concerns and figure out how to get help. I hope it helps you or somone you love.
Customer Review: An Essential Source Book
Cruise Control is an essential handbook for any gay males dealing with sex addiction issues. In clear and concise prose, the author discusses what sex addiction is and what it is not. He gives lots of examples of appropriate and inappropriate behavior, allowing us to see ourselves where appropriate. The text is geared specifically to a gay male audience, s issues of homophobia and orientation -related shame are addressed directly without judgment. The book can be a quick, one day read or it can be read slowly and be digested depending on the needs of the reader. I very highly recommend this book.

Customer Review: Nile cruise
I found this book to be very informative and quite helpful for our upcoming trip to Egypt.
Customer Review: First Time Traveller to Egypt
I thought I would add my thoughts after actually having used the book in Egypt.

Firstly I believe the book is an invaluable guide for any first-time traveller to Egypt who is booked on a Nile Cruise. I found the information accurate and up-to-date and it saved me a lot of hassle. The author explains things in an easy to understand way and offers many helpful tips, especially with regarding to dealing with the more persistent Egyptians that work the tourist areas. And believe me I encountered more than my fair share of them!! However, because this is a specialised book, dealing specifically with a Nile Cruise, I would suggest you use it in conjunction with one of the more general Egyptian travel guides such as Lonely Planet, or the Rough Guide, which tend to only touch on the subject of a Nile cruise.

Because I was unsure about a couple of things I’d heard about Egypt I actually contacted the author via her website before travelling and she was more than happy to answer my questions and put my mind at ease. (A very nice person)

Overall I found it a very helpful book by someone who has actually been there. It was easily carried around in my bag, unlike some of the more general guides, and definitely helped me on my hols to Egypt!

Spring Break Cruises

Celebrating Spring Break aboard a Cruise Ship

Are you a hardworking college student?  If so, are you looking forward to spring break?  Spring break is an extended break that all college students in the United States are granted.  Unlike holiday breaks, spring break is often a time to vacation, let loose, and have fun with your friends.

Selecting a bring break destination is a fairly easy process. There are a large number of college students who flock to the most popular spring break destinations.  These destinations include Cancun, South Beach, the Bahamas, or Panama City.  Each of these destinations is famous for their sunny weather and amazing nightlife.  Despite their popularity, these beaches often become overcrowded during spring break.  If you are interested in swaying away from the norm, you may want to consider spending your spring break aboard a cruise ship.

When it comes to cruise ships, many individuals mistakenly believe they are only for family vacations or romantic getaways.  The truth is that you can take a cruise at just about any point in your life and go just about anywhere you want. That includes spring break.  If you are interested in spending your break partying and enjoying life, you do not have to worry. There are a number of cruise lines that have cruise ships that are just for you.

To find a cruise ship that allows adventure, partying, and all-around fun, you will need to do a little bit of research.  This research involves familiarizing yourself with popular cruise lines and the ships they offer.  If you are looking to examine popular cruise lines, you are encouraged to learn more about Celebrity Cruises, Carnival Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean, or Costa Cruises.  In addition to these well-know cruise lines, it is likely that you will come across additional cruise lines offering fun filled cruises, all around the world.

When you are searching for a cruise ship that offers excitement and adventure, you are encouraged to stay away from ships that target families.  Family cruises are often limited on the amount of gambling or alcohol assumption that goes on.  If gambling and alcohol consumption is allowed, excess amounts are often frowned upon. To avoid confrontation, you are encouraged to stay away from these family cruise lines. That is unless you plan on spending your spring break with your family.

In addition to family cruises, you may want to avoid cruise ships that target couples.  These romantic cruises are often geared towards couples that are interested in experiencing a romantic and relaxing cruise.  If you are traveling with your partner, a romantic cruise may be acceptable for your needs.  Gambling and alcohol consumption is allowed aboard most romantic cruises, but excessive amounts are also often frowned upon.

To find the perfect cruise ship for your summer vacation, you are encouraged to find a cruise ship that targets those seeking adventures.  In addition to offering exciting onboard activities, you are likely to find that the land adventures are just as fun.  Many party cruises or adventure cruises dock in well-known ports.  These ports may have activities that are just what you are looking for.

Spending your vacation aboard a cruise ship is the perfect way to enjoy your break.  This unique vacation experience will often eliminate overcrowded beaches and unsafe adventures.  Aboard a cruise ship you can safely enjoy your break, while having fun at the same time.

Customer Review: Great tips and evaluation of different cruise lines
This guide was a terrific help in confirming our thoughts for excursions. Had used the Frommer’s guide for the Caribbean ports of call and loved it. This is just as helpful. Super ideas for things to do on your own, where to eat, what to buy. I especially liked the comparison charts for alternative cruise lines in categories like dining, activities, service, etc. This guide is worth the money.
Customer Review: Too much cruise, not enough ports
The book is a very comprehensive review of all of the cruise lines and individuals ships cruising in the Med. In fact half of the book is devoted to this area. However, I really wanted much more on the ports and excursions, which I felt were not covered in detail at all. The cruise web sites and message boards, including on Frommer.com, are far more in-depth.

Read about early explorers and ancient Indian cultures. Information on land and sea mammals are colorfully illustrated along with various types of fishing vessels that are likely to be seen. Learn about the exciting cities and ports-of-call along the cruise line route. Each city and port-of-call is covered by descriptive text, photos and a map showing the major points of interest.
Customer Review: Excellent map
I thought this was an excellent map of the inside passage. Because it is a six foot fold out map it shows the details of the little passes and islands you don’t normally get in guidebooks and complemented the book I bought, Alaska By Cruise Ship. What do you for ten bucks nowadays anyway?
Customer Review: Exactly as expected
I was surprised at some of the other reviewers who expected this to be a book. It is a 6-foot long by 12-inch fold out map of the inside passage from Glacier Bay to Seattle. It does have some basic facts and information on the reverse side as well as basic road maps of most of the towns along the passage. I’m looking forward to tracking my entire cruise route on this relatively detailed map. If you’re looking for more detail, I think you’d have to get a topo or a nautical map.

Cruise Crazy: The Cruise Addict’s Survival Guide

Cruise Crazy: The Cruise Addict’s Survival Guide For millions of people every year, a cruise isn’t just a delightful vacation it’s an obsession. These Cruise Crazies have simply GOT TO BE ON ONE - landlubber jobs and responsibilities be damned. Luckily for them, there is a new behavioral therapy guide by Dr. Kruz Nutty (a.k.a. Bob Mick), the world’s premier authority on cruise addiction. Through Dr. Nutty’s Cruise Crazy, take a quiz to discover which of the four levels of cruise addiction you have reached. Then take note of the wacky pre- and post-cruise rituals and obsessive-compulsive symptoms that give cruise addicts away while learning new terms that finally define their crazy addictive behaviors: Stage 1: Pre-Cruise Psychosis - a happy obsession over choosing the perfect cruise; hosting cruise-themed parties, and sending endless newsletters to friends about their future cruise. Stage 2: Traumatic Travel Syndrome, where NOTHING will keep Cruise Crazies from getting to the ship on time. Driving at break-neck speed to their port of departure, booking only hotels with harbor views to watch for their ship, and suffering from Seaport Personality Syndrome get out of the way as these Crazies rush onto the ship. Stage 3: Sea Junky. Here they either subside into lethargic poolside lounging, hibiscus in hair, sipping umbrella-laden ice-cold drinks, and floating peacefully on turquoise waters, or they rev up into a frenzy of shipboard and seaport activities by overindulging, overshopping, overeating, and overdipping into every port of call with utter abandon. Stage 4: Severe Ship Separation Anxiety as cruise crazies approach the dreaded end of the cruise, when days of uncontrolled exuberance come to an end. But Dr. Nutty does not abandon his dry-land afflicted Crazies here. Discover his 25-step Cruise Recovery Program with its bathtub buffets, faux cruise ship rooms, and other cruise withdrawal remedies. Laughter is always the best medicine and Cruise Crazy may be all the laugh therapy - or encouragement - you need.
Customer Review: Cruise Crazy
What a wonderful, cute little book. The illustrations are just great and they describe my friends and I perfectly. I got so involved with each step of cruise addiction and called my cruise agent to set up my next cruise.
This is a must read before you ever get on the boat or if you have a severe addiction and have cruised many times.
Dr. Kruz Nutty can name your addiction!!!!

Customer Review: A Thorough Guide But Too Much Like Advertising For The Cruise Lines
For those interested in taking a cruise this book serves as a very thorough guide. It discusses pretty much all of the available cruises. It talks about planning your cruise and what experiences are available on board - spas, shows, activities and, of course, lots of food. It also covers the excursions available at the different ports of call and where each cruise line goes to, with an emphasis on the Caribbean, Alaska and the Mediterranean.

The only reason I am deducting a star is that the writers give only rave reviews for every cruise line. It seemed like they were often just advertising for the cruise companies rather than offering objective opinions that would be useful for its readers. This made it hard to figure out which cruise lines were best because the writers made each one sound so wonderful. So readers seeking to narrow their options might want to go online to the websites where people offer reviews on their cruising experiences rather than rely on this book.

But for all the nuts and bolts information on planning a cruise, what places you can cruise to and what activites are available, both at sea and on shore, this book is an excellent choice.
Customer Review: Good general info
This is a good tool for first-time cruisers . . . and great info if you’re going to the Caribbean. My cruise was to Canada (Atlantic side), so there wasn’t a lot about the tours for Canada.

Otherwise, good info.

Customer Review: excellent resource for Disney travelers!
Although we have visited Walt Disney World many times, the information available in this book was genuinely helpful. We’re also looking into the cruise/park vacation packages, and there seemed to be a lot of information there, too.
Customer Review: Special Needs Interest
I think this book has valuable information. It is a good book. I am a person with health considerations and a big Disney Fan. I found this book and the Walt Disney World with Disabilities both very helpful. Since they are both good references for my needs with their own style and quality I used them both.

How to Make a Towel Monkey and other Cruise Ship Favorites

How to Make a Towel Monkey and other Cruise Ship Favorites Step by step instruction on how to make 8 towel animals, like they make on cruise ships, by folding towels. 15 color pictures of the finished animals. Detailed instructions are in pictures and text. Picture instructions are in black and white for better detail and show an actual towel being folded, not a drawing. Spiral binding enables the book to lay flat so you don’t have to hold the book open while making the projects. Animals included are monkey, lobster, sitting dog, playful pup, elephant, duck, sea turtle and snail.
Customer Review: Throwing in the towel
I agree with other reviewers about the homemade quality of the book. The book itself was VERY thin and not what I expected for the $14+ spent on it. It’s NOT the worst book on towel origami but not the best either. I’d place it somewhere in the middle. The author does explain things well so I have to give her some credit for that. Think the main disappointment was the thin and homemade quality of it. Wasn’t the best first impression when I opened the box. I still find learning towel origami by the DVDs on the market the easier way to go. Looking at photos or illustrations in a book with a lot of text doesn’t do it for me when learning the visual art of towel origami. I need to see it in action.
Customer Review: Looked a little cheap…
When I got this book it looked like some unprofessional company had made it. The book was bound only by sprial and the pictures were not in color. I would recommend not getting this book unless you really want to spend the money. The Lost Art of towel folding was a far better purchase.

Jim West has logged millions of nautical miles as a cruise director and doles out the answers to cruise questions with wit and style. Customer Review: Not Particularly Useful
The gist of this book is: “Have a good time, no matter what. Avoid bugging the staff, your problem’s not that big.” Very little in the way of stuff which could enhance your cruise or keep you out of trouble.
Customer Review: The Essential little Cruise Book
I am returning this item.
Its a small little book with just general information nothing specific or insightfull.
