Customer Review: We cruised the Hawaiian Islands
Even though we visited several of the islands before, we thought we’d take my mother on our cruise. She brought “Hawaii By Cruise Ship” along I brought three of the Trailblazer guides (Maui, Kauai, Big Island) to add to our reading material. The four books made a wonderful collection, each filling in something that this book left out. I gave this book four stars because it’s a little weak on history.

We had the choice of taking paid excursions at various ports and having the combo gave us a pictorial preview and helped with the selection. Nawiliwili Harbor was by far the most dramatic and so was our land tour to Waimea Canyon.
Customer Review: Great Concise Summary for Hawaii Cruisers
Thousands of people cruise around the Hawaiian Islands every week. Anne Vipond speaks directly to this group of visitors, explaining how to get the best experience out of your Hawaiian cruise vacation.

The book begins with a very nice reference area helping you understand the basics of a cruise ship and the background of the culture and history of Hawaii. Both of these are things you might normally overlook in a Hawaii travel book - but both are really important to helping you really enjoy your vacation by cruise. The more you are prepared for how a cruise ship works - and the more you understand the background of the peoples and landscapes of Hawaii - the more meaningful your trip is.

The book goes island by island, allowing you to quickly page to whichever island you’re interested in and scan through the attractions. That way you can bring the book with you on the ship, bookmark whichever island is coming up next, and scan to see what you should watch out for. There are nice color photos so you can see exactly what the lava tubes look like, what the sea arch looks like, and so on. As I visited the locations, I was impressed that the book did a great job of showing me exactly what to watch for.

The book keeps a variety of visitors in mind. It talks about which golf courses are nearby, what hiking trails are available, what the beaches are like. It indicates when you should rent a car in advance and when shuttles are available.

There is a very nice pull-out map that has an overview of Hawaii on one side, and up close detailed maps on the other side of the main islands and locations. The book has even more detailed maps of specific areas, like Volcano National Park on the Big Island.

The book is definitely not as bulky as some other Hawaii books out there - but I found this a good thing. This was something I could easily carry with me and thumb through to figure out what seemed most interesting. Then if I wanted really in depth information about one detail, I could go to my specific book to get all the full information. For example, I have the Big Island Revealed which is an entire book just on the “Big Island” of Hawaii since I really wanted to explore there. But I used this book as a guide to figure out which attractions I wanted to see, and then went to the Revealed book to get the mile marker and location and other details.

A great reference book for the cruiser to Hawaii!

The guide has everything first-time and veteran cruisers need to know about booking and enjoying a cruise with Mickey . . . and maybe a little extra, too!

Customer Review: Invaluable
I have never been on a cruise so I was starting from zero. This book helped me and my family understand all of the options available from Disney and allowed us to make informed decisions. The authors have been there and done that, literally, and share with us their experiences, insights, and photographs. Each activity at sea and on shore is explained in great detail. Each member of my family actually read through these with highlighter in hand, marking off the ones they wanted us to do. It makes planning a lot easier.

In that same vein, I found the descriptions of the cabins to be particularly useful. With almost a dozen cabin classes, how is a newbie supposed to choose? I suspected the cabins with the pianos would be a tad pricey, but after that I was lost. This book came to the rescue. It provides diagrams, measurements, and features for each cabin class, along with first-person descriptions.

If you’re considering taking a Disney cruise, then you really have to get this book.

Customer Review: Best Disney World Book You Could Buy.
When I get a guide book. I look for things such as fine details and points to look for. The PassPorters books dose that and even more. Their web site is a gold mine Disney. The people who wrote this book are totally absolved by everything Disney go to their forum. I have tons of other guides books, I am taking my family on the 7 day Disney Cruse next year and wanted a detail guide about the route where we are taking. This book does that and things I never could of known. I higher recommend these books from PassPorters they are totally above everything you could find for a Disney trip with fine details.

The hunts are suitable for all ages and treasure-seeking abilities, from children and first-time visitors to eagle-eyed park veterans. Customer Review: It’s Worth It!!!!!!!!!!!
My husband and I are avid Disney goers, visiting at least once a year. We always try to find something different to do when wer’re there (i.e. tours around the parks). This book has provided that new fun thing to do on our next trip. It asks a lot of questions and you really have to hunt for answers. There are differnet levels of hunts so it’s great for kids, teenagers, or kids at heart. Enjoy!!!!!!
Customer Review: Wonderful!
This book is a necessity for anyone who visits WDW. We have been 11 times now, and thought we knew everything. WRONG. We had more much fun on this last trip using this book than ever before.

If you look around at WDW, everyone is hurrying, running, to get to the “next” thing. What you may not realize is that every step IS the next thing.

WDW is not just about shows and rides. It’s all the little details that create the whole fun effect. We had never even stopped to read all the handprints in front of The Great Movie Ride, examine the fountain in front of Muppet Labs, notice all the details inside Country Bear Jamboree, or a million other things. Treaure hunting gave this trip so much more and really made this trip more “magical” than ever.

Customer Review: Great for small fans of the movie!
My two year old who’s favorite show is Cars loves these books. They are very simple books that each tell a watered down portion of the story. Each book is from a different character’s POV from the movie; Lightning, Mater, Sally, and Doc.

The books are very sturdy which is great for when one of my children decides to get rough with them. The little case they come in is cute and while my boy likes carrying it around, it’s made of a much thinner cardboard and I can tell it won’t last very long.

All in all, I’m very happy with this product.
Customer Review: Loads of fun
Keeps my 4 month old entertained with all the wonderful colors and I don’t have to worry about him grabbing a page and ripping it while we are reading. Being from Georgia the whole family loves the book about Mater :)

Santa Cruise: A Holiday Mystery at Sea ()

Santa Cruise: A Holiday Mystery at Sea () Alvirah Meehan, lottery winner turned amateur sleuth, and private investigator Regan Reilly are guests, along with their spouses, on the “Santa Cruise.” The cruise is a gift from Commodore Randolph Weed to a select group that “has made the world a better place.” His largesse is prompted by the desire to create a buzz about his new cruise ship, the Royal Mermaid, as she sets out on her maiden voyage.

Alvirah, Regan, and her new husband, Jack — head of the NYPD Major Case Squad — are joined as guests on the cruise by a mystery fan convention celebrating a “ghost of honor,” as well as ten men who donated time playing Santa Claus, now hoping for a restful post-season. That tranquility vanishes when two Santa suits disappear from a locked room, a storm develops, and an attempt is made on a passenger’s life. As the Royal Mermaid sails through troubled waters, Alvirah, Regan, and Jack uncover clues that lead them to dangerous criminals not on the original guest list….

Customer Review: Santa Cruise
This was a fun, light read! The story went quickly and was very entertaining.
Customer Review: One of the worst “mysteries” I’ve ever read!
Because I’ve enjoyed previous Higgins Clarks’ Alvirah and Willy mysteries and was about embark on a cruise in Hawaii, I thought this book would be perfect! Was I wrong!! It has a paper thin plot, if any, and even the usual cast of characters is weakly drawn. It’s almost as if it were given as a class assignment - “Write a novel in the Mary Higgins Clark/Carol Higgins Clark STYLE.” It was awful! One redeeming feature - the authors did their homework about cruises - all the details were there - passenger photos with the captain, food, etc., it clicked in that way. But the plot was downright silly! Can you imagine Alvirah being able to swim all the way around a 400-passenger ship and then catch a box in her hand? PLEASE do not buy this book, especially at full price as I did, thinking it would be just right for my cruise experience. I wanted to throw it overboard!

Customer Review: A shocking look at the truth of the cruise ship industry!
I have to say, if I was planning on taking a cruise anytime in the near future this book was enough to make me think twice about it! From the truth about labor to the sanitation issues faced by passengers while on board, this book takes all of the hype out of taking a vacation on the high seas and gives passengers some great ideas on how to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. I’d say this is a definite must-read to anyone thinking about spending their next vacation away from dry land.
Customer Review: Shocking!
You know…when something seems to good to be true, it usually is. I am shocked at the scandalous issues and health concerns that are going on when you do the cruise ship thing. Lipcon is a very credible source too, its just crazy! The book is awesome! Very informative.

Walter the Farting Dog Goes on a Cruise

Walter the Farting Dog Goes on a Cruise It’s a fabulous floating palace, and everybody on it is having the time of their life…until a mysterious and terrible odor begins to permeate the splendid ship. What can this awful odor be? All signs point to Walter, and so he is banished down below, with the stinky cheeses.Walter doesn’t mind—at least he has something to snack on. But not even the cheese room can contain Walter’s powerful farts. So they lower him onto a lifeboat, and he is forced to travel alone behind the ocean liner. Then catastrophe strikes! The liner loses its power. How long will the great cruise ship and its frightened passengers be marooned on the high seas? About as long as it takes Walter to digest that cheese….
Customer Review: We love Walter!
We have EVERY Walter the Farting Dog book and my kids think they are hysterical. The artwork is very funky and unique, and the kids love looking for the spider hiding on almost every page. We eagerly anticipate the future release of all Walter books.
Customer Review: Walter the Farting Dog Goes On A Cruise
We bought this book for our grandchildren. My wife and I read this book and really enjoyed, our kids loved it also, we thought it was funny. We would recommend it.

Over 400 maps and photos most in color. Includes giant color fold out map of Panama Canal
Customer Review: MIL seemed to like it.
Purchased this book for my mother-in-law. She seemed to like it. They are taking a trip there, so it made a good gift. Have not read the book myself.
Customer Review: Panama Canal Cruise tour book
Great coverage of the history and structure of the Panama Canal itself and a great deal of information about cruise ships in general. However, I was disappointed in the coverage of the ports. I would have preferred more details.

Birnbaum’s Disney Cruise Line 2008 (Birnbaum’s Disney Cruise Line)

Birnbaum’s Disney Cruise Line 2008 (Birnbaum’s Disney Cruise Line) Customer Review: No Useful Information
There are no “insider” tips or anything in this book. It’s pretty much a watered down version of Disney’s own travel brochures. Complete waste of money.
Customer Review: Basically a brochure for the cruise
Nothing critical here. Basically tells you about the cruise. I was looking for recommendations and such, this thing is basically the “official” guide to the cruise. Don’t buy it. Everything I learned on this I found on some good web sites about the cruise. Buy the passporter guide book.

Frommer’s Cruises & Ports of Call 2008: From U.S. & Canadian Home Ports to the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii & More (Frommer’s Complete)

Frommer’s Cruises & Ports of Call 2008: From U.S. & Canadian Home Ports to the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii & More (Frommer’s Complete) A? cruise is a complete vacation, so it’s important that you choose the one that’s right for you. Frommer’s Cruises & Ports of Call is the most user-friendly, opinionated, and comprehensive guide you can buy before you set sail. We provide in-depth coverage on cruises departing from U.S. ports to the Caribbean, Alaska, Bermuda, Mexico and Canada.

Unlike rating systems used in other guides, our system is simple. We break down the essential elements of a cruise experience (dining, activities, children’s activities, entertainment, service, overall enjoyment, and overall value), and rate them from “poor” to “outstanding.” Photos of each ship combine with the text to give a better sense of the very real differences among the various lines.

Most important, this is the only cruise guide that provides the real prices people pay for cruises, not just the rack rates. Other guides tell you that a seven-night cruise aboard Norwegian’s Norwegian Jewel costs $2,299. You can pay that if you want to, but only Frommer’s tells you that the same cruise is selling for $764. We give both the rack rates and the discount price for every cruise we review. This feature alone makes Frommer’s Cruises and Ports of Call by far the most valuable trip-planning book among cruise guides.

Our authors, noted cruise experts who’ve personally checked out every ship sailing in and around North America, offer candid and unbiased opinions on them all. They are completely up to date, with all the latest developments and the newest ships. You’ll also get complete coverage of the major port destinations, with advice on how to spend your limited time ashore.
