Customer Review: Fantastic Guide-The Real Deal
Before purchasing this book, I did a bit of research on the different guides available. One had a lot of advertisements, but was popular. It was more like a Frommers travel book. This one was written by the guy who actually used equipment relied upon by chartmakers for local depth soundings. You could tell by his “local” hints that he really took the time and effort to give you the insider’s view. From recomming “Mr.Fantastic” (a local boat vendor who sold us delicious lobster), to recommendations on local restaurants at each of our island stops along the way, this book was fantastic. The black and white pages made it all the more authentic as not being overly commercialized. In each port he gave highly reliable waypoints which I fed into my Garmin GPS, and everything worked like clockwork. His depth soundings in the anchorages were highly reliable as well. Our crew of 6 sailors, all passionate for adventure in the Windward Islands, raved about this book. Other books were aboard, but this one quickly became the one that we relied upon. It was concise and to the point, and we really enjoyed using it. Accolades to Mr. Pavlidis. This is a winner!!
    Customer Review: Pretty Good
Lots of great info. Unfortunately in Black and White. Good complement to the “Sailors Guide to the Windward Islands”.

    Cruising Catamaran Communique

Cruising Catamaran Communique The latest and most comprehensive critique of the sailing catamaran industry by a thirty-five year marine surveyor with portfolio. This is a how to book; compare, select and sail catamarans for cruising. Photos, diagrams, and illustrations. Extensive glossary and bibliography. Has considerable information not available elsewhere.
Customer Review: 90% same as his previous book
This is a great book if you want to understand what makes a catamaran tick and learn the differences between one and the others.
So, if you do not have already his book “Cruising in Catamarans”, this is a great buy. If you have the other, this is just an updated version and you end up with two books 90% the same.
Customer Review: Best New Catamaran Review
This book is ideal for the experienced sailor as well as the wanabee. Author has a great personal style that never interferes with communicating the topic. Strong overview and comparison of what’s out there, and what it can mean for you. Lots of nitty gritty details. If there was one book I would put in the hands of the potential boat owner, it would be this one!

Customer Review: We cruised the Hawaiian Islands
Even though we visited several of the islands before, we thought we’d take my mother on our cruise. She brought “Hawaii By Cruise Ship” along I brought three of the Trailblazer guides (Maui, Kauai, Big Island) to add to our reading material. The four books made a wonderful collection, each filling in something that this book left out. I gave this book four stars because it’s a little weak on history.

We had the choice of taking paid excursions at various ports and having the combo gave us a pictorial preview and helped with the selection. Nawiliwili Harbor was by far the most dramatic and so was our land tour to Waimea Canyon.
Customer Review: Great Concise Summary for Hawaii Cruisers
Thousands of people cruise around the Hawaiian Islands every week. Anne Vipond speaks directly to this group of visitors, explaining how to get the best experience out of your Hawaiian cruise vacation.

The book begins with a very nice reference area helping you understand the basics of a cruise ship and the background of the culture and history of Hawaii. Both of these are things you might normally overlook in a Hawaii travel book - but both are really important to helping you really enjoy your vacation by cruise. The more you are prepared for how a cruise ship works - and the more you understand the background of the peoples and landscapes of Hawaii - the more meaningful your trip is.

The book goes island by island, allowing you to quickly page to whichever island you’re interested in and scan through the attractions. That way you can bring the book with you on the ship, bookmark whichever island is coming up next, and scan to see what you should watch out for. There are nice color photos so you can see exactly what the lava tubes look like, what the sea arch looks like, and so on. As I visited the locations, I was impressed that the book did a great job of showing me exactly what to watch for.

The book keeps a variety of visitors in mind. It talks about which golf courses are nearby, what hiking trails are available, what the beaches are like. It indicates when you should rent a car in advance and when shuttles are available.

There is a very nice pull-out map that has an overview of Hawaii on one side, and up close detailed maps on the other side of the main islands and locations. The book has even more detailed maps of specific areas, like Volcano National Park on the Big Island.

The book is definitely not as bulky as some other Hawaii books out there - but I found this a good thing. This was something I could easily carry with me and thumb through to figure out what seemed most interesting. Then if I wanted really in depth information about one detail, I could go to my specific book to get all the full information. For example, I have the Big Island Revealed which is an entire book just on the “Big Island” of Hawaii since I really wanted to explore there. But I used this book as a guide to figure out which attractions I wanted to see, and then went to the Revealed book to get the mile marker and location and other details.

A great reference book for the cruiser to Hawaii!

Bulb Classic Saddlebag, black, three Conchos Per Side, Quick Release Buckles This huge capacity bulb classic saddlebag is styled after the popular Heritage bag and modified with our own special Spider’s Den styling. This saddlebag is designed for high-capacity touring.Because of the size, the bag is too big to fit behind the shocks of most non-Softail style motorcycles. If you were interested in this bag, it would be critical to ensure that you had sufficient clearance so that the back of the bag would completely clear and not touch the shocks.

Cruising America’s Waterways: The Mississippi River: Memphis to New Orleans

Cruising America’s Waterways: The Mississippi River: Memphis to New Orleans Cruising America’s Waterways boards the Mississippi Queen, a classic paddlewheeler, for a seven-day cruise on the Mississippi River. From the steam engine to the steam-powered calliope, this vessel recalls the Victorian Era’s luxury travel by boat. Along the way we visit the National Civil Rights Museum; Elvis’ Graceland (Memphis); the National Military Park; the Army Corps. of Engineers (Vicksburg); antebellus homes; and a working cotton plantation (Natchez). There’s the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola; the beautiful gardens of Rosedown (St. Francisville); Louisiana’s Art Deco state capital; Cajun cooking; a swamp tour (Baton Rouge); and stops at Oak Alley and Laura Plantations (Vacherie). While in New Orleans we visit the port facilities, Lake Pontchartrain, and the Cabildo. Of course, no trip to New Orleans is complete without sampling the food and music of the famed French quarter.
Customer Review: Super Video from an Oneida Lake boater
I recently purchased a copy of Cruising America’s Waterways: The Mississippi River and truly enjoyed it. The video is really beautiful. Anyone who knows anything about the Mississippi, especially this stretch of it, realizes that the “Big Muddy” looks very much the same - primarily filled with barge traffic day and night - and that the ports along it are fascinating destinations for boaters and non-boaters alike. I really liked the interview with the captain about navigating the Mississippi - good tips from someone who knows what he’s doing. I didn’t know, until I watched this show, that Memphis had such a great museum devoted to the Mississippi River - I’m definitely visiting that!

I also enjoyed not only seeing the plantations and romance of the Mississippi River area portrayed, but also having the importance of the river conveyed, its importance to the cotton industry in the past (I never knew that we still had working cotton plantations dating back hundreds of years) and to the present, as was made clear in the visit to the Port of New Orleans in the program.

When I travel on my boat, I want to know what things there are to see and do along the way - and good places to eat. This program showed me that and made me eager to get out and explore the Mississippi. As a boater and a clergyman - I give this program on the Mississippi (and all the Cruising America’s Waterways programs, some of which I’ve seen on PBS) my blessing!
    Customer Review: A total waste
This doesn’t rise to the level of a bad travelogue. Cruise? There is hardly any water in it. Who cares about yet another tour of Graceland? It gets even worse with a visit to a bowling alley featuring rock music. My goodness, how much less interesting can you get.

Cruising America’s Waterways: New York State’s Finger Lakes

Cruising America’s Waterways: New York State’s Finger Lakes Customer Review: amateur claptrap
I spent 20 bucks for this Mr. Rogers of the waterways? Nothing but a blatant advertisement for weird artwork and doggie life preservers, if you want to see the finger lakes, don’t buy this DVD. The cutesy-pie exchange between Captain Mark and his first mate wife will make you barf. Save your money for a bottle of great NY wine instead.
