Cruising

Cruising Sexual thriller with Al Pacino as a young cop who must go undercover as a gay ‘cruiser’ in New York City. There’s a homicidal homophobe on the streets, brutally killing gay men, and it’s up to Pacino to stop him. Shot on location in several gay bars of the era.
Customer Review: Dark but true
I remember seeing this when it first came out. It was a rather taboo movie because it didn’t hold back on the hard core gay leather life that is incorporated in the movie. Pacino did an excellent job of pulling off what the gay leatherman acted and looked like in the 70’s and early 80’s. The scenes of the clubs are pretty much the way it really was like
Customer Review: A Fury of Fistings
There’s a certain expectation of sensationalism that comes with watching a William Friedkin film - one scene that will have your jaw dropping at the audaciousness of it, and that stays with you long after. Cruising, however, doesn’t.
It’s a well-crafted work, to be sure, and features great performances from supporting players Karen Allen and Paul Sorvino, but ultimately it leaves one with a sense of dissatisfaction. Friedkin here delves deep into New York’s gay underworld of leather bars and kinky sex (he’s not representing it as the whole of the lifestyle, just a subculture), occasionally spicing it up with a murder scene.
It’s really a showcase for the formidable talents of Al Pacino (before the hysteria of his later work)here as an undercover cop investigating the brutal slayings of men who all seem to share the same lifestyle.
It’s not bad Friedkin (like Jade or The Guardian) or brilliant Friedkin (Sorcerer, The French Connection), just very, very, average Friedkin. There’s nothing memorable going on here for his fans, but does get a solid performace from Pacino. Not for all tastes.

Cruising with Ruben & the Jets

Cruising with Ruben & the Jets Customer Review: A question
I have not heard his CD but I did own the LP at one time and would rate it 3 stars only because it had a very funny parody of garage band histories (along with a classic picture of Zappa) on the back. It, frankly, was the best part of the LP. However I have this memory of Little Richard’s song “Directly from my Heart” being on the LP. Can anyone verify this for me? Is my Alzheimer’s taking over?
Customer Review: Beware: This is NOT the Original Recording Remastered
I now own 2 copies of the 1980s didgial remix because this page claims to be the original recording remastered…unfortuneately Roy Estarda’s bass and Jummy Carl Black’s drums have been replaced with the 1980s sound of Arthur Barrow’s Bass and Chad Wackerman’s Drums. Ryko please release the actual Original recordings remastered like you did for ‘We’re Only In It For The Money’

Popular Mechanics for Kids - Radical Rockets and Other Cool Cruising Machines

Popular Mechanics for Kids - Radical Rockets and Other Cool Cruising Machines Join PMK’s junior hosts, Jay and Elisha, for a thrilling tour of underwater and sky borne transport in Radical Rockets. The action begins on a Trident nuclear submarine, where Jay walks over missile silos, visits the ship’s nerve center (and even steers it for a moment), looks through a periscope, and learns what makes a vessel that is longer than two football fields dive and surface. Meanwhile, Elisha takes a fantastic ride on a two-woman sub, then joins her cohort at NASA for some disorienting training in weightlessness, spurious motion, and flight control on the space shuttle. Along the way, there are lessons in the chemistry of booster rockets and how astronauts find leaks via computer. There’s also a chapter on remote-controlled model submarines, but for the most part watching Radical Rockets is like gaining exclusive, enviable access to the biggest and coolest machines in the world. –Tom Keogh
Customer Review: Great for 3 and 5 year old
I bought this for my 5 year old son, but my 3 year old daughter also enjoys it (though a bit long for her age). My son is really into rockets and space, but knows nothing of commercialized stories such as Star Wars and the like. So he’s very intrigued by the actual inner workings of rockets and boosters and things that goes into space. Lots of great real life video, which is always a hit with his mom. The kids are a bit older than him, but he still enjoys it.
Customer Review: Terrific for the inquisitive
I first bought one Popular Mechanics dvd to explain electricity to our 3 year old grandson. After seeing it I purchased one for our 5 year old grandson. Since then I have purchased two sets of the six Popular Mechanics dvd’s and they have entertained both boys for hours. These stories are told by children, for children, and are very educational and interesting. I would purchase more in a second.

Customer Review: Fantastic bike
I bought this bike today for my 12 year old daughter, who moved up from a 20″ kids bike. This was the only full-size (26″) that she could comfortably get on and off of and balance while stopped. It has a smaller frame than most of the other bikes we tried, which works great for us smaller people. The brakes work perfectly, the shifting is easy, and she loves the way it looks. It is a little heavier than my mountain bike, but she is mainly using it for recreational riding, so that is not a big issue for us. She thinks the seat is comfortable, too. We will see how it holds up, but so far, I am very happy with the Ranger.
Customer Review: Excellent bike
I bought this bike from Target about a year ago and I ride it almost every day. It rides very smoothly, the gears are easy to change, the seat easy to adjust, etc. It’s just an all-around good quality bike. I wouldn’t trade it for anything and would highly recommend it to anyone out there. I’m not too sure about buying bikes online because you have to assemble them but I recommend going to your local Target to pick this bike up and give it a little test ride. You won’t be disappointed.

Also, my fiance has the men’s Ranger bike which we purchased about a month ago and he loves it too. The Ranger’s are great bikes if you are looking at riding around your neighborhood or on paved streets. They do quite well on slightly rough terrain but they slide a good bit if you are on soft sand. They are definitely road bikes. No complaints here!

Customer Review: Great Buy!
I went to Target looking for a good bike to ride in San Francisco, when I move there for college next year. I walked in thinking I would only find bad quality bikes but this one caught my eye. I am about 5′6″ so I am a short guy. My feet barely touch the ground but once I am on riding the bike it’s amazing. The brakes are great. But when I am coasting the gears sometimes change, I am not sure if it is re-aligning or something else but it always seems fine. I live in Sonoma, CA (The Wine Country) so I have some pretty varied terrains, bike paths, streets, as well as some off-roading conditions. I went for a ride today and it was fun, but I got a little winded and turned back around. I hope this bike gets me in shape and continues to please me. I recommend this bike for guys who are short like me, it works well. I am not at all a bike expert so I think I will have to bring it to a bike shop so they show me how to maintain it. I hope more people decide to but this bike. Enjoy!
Customer Review: Amazing BIKE
I loved this bike. I went to a bike store and they tried to sell me a “true off road” bike for $800. So I went down to target and bought something normal that I would use around town and this bike was amazing. But what surprised me more was when I actually rode on rocky areas and trails. This bike was able to handle it all without any problems.

There are two cons to this bike versus the $800 bike. One, the frame is heavier. Dont expect to be racing against a Cannondale and win because you wont. However, this bike has a solid well constructed frame that wont break or bend. Second, the seat was kind of annoying to my butt. I switched the seat with a gel seat. Ever since then I had no complaints with this bike.

It has been roughly two weeks since I got this bike and I am so glad I did. I read the reviews on Amazon.com before I went out and bought it and I am NOT disappointed. This bike is worth the money and then some!

Honey, Let’s Get a Boat… A Cruising Adventure of America’s Great Loop

Honey, Let’s Get a Boat… A Cruising Adventure of America’s Great Loop This is the story of a couple’s travels on a forty-foot trawler cruising 6300 miles and 145 locks around the eastern part of North America known as America’s Great Loop or the Great Circle Cruise. Their nautical ineptitude is evident from the beginning, but pulling from their personal and collective strengths, the authors overcome doubt, a lack of experience, and real and imagined horrors. The odyssey is told the way life hands out its adventures — sometimes humorously, sometimes tragically, but always memorably. The writing is light and appealing, but there is a serious strain running through the book for those who relish history and descriptions of the landscape. Astute and attentive to detail, they chronicled events and kept an account of expenses, equipment and charting. As a result, the appendix/guidebook is worth the price of the book for anyone interested in planning their cruise. Topics include necessary charts and guidebooks, information on locks, sett! ing an itinerary, resource addresses and websites, details on equipment and the best place to be educated about boating. The book has full-color inserts with black and white photographs interspersed throughout.
Customer Review: Must read for Great Loop travel
If your you’re going to or are just thinking about boating the Great Loop you must read this book. A great read.
Customer Review: Really feels like you are in the captain’s chair
The title might set the wrong tone as this book is a colorfully written actual account of this ambitious trip taken by a husband-wife crew on a 40 foot trawler capable of 9 knots. It was their first big boat but they were a quick study and courageous. Bonus is an entire section summarizing all the resources they used to prepare for the trip with contact information and recommendations. He is a travel writer so you get a lot of the local flavor and history as they cruise.

Customer Review: Stephen P’s First Guide
I have been cruising the Bahamas for over 30 years. For all these long times there was just one cruising guide available. And it was quite limited in scope. The along came Stephen Pavlidis. He has singlehandedly upgraded the quality and safety of Bahamas cruising . His Exumas Cruising Guide is the most complete information you can get for that area. I wouldn’t think of cruising the Exumas without it. Stephen Crow, K4CPX
Customer Review: Don’t leave home without it
I have cruised the Exumas four winters on my Jeanneau 41. I wouldn’t think of doing it without Steven’s wonderful book. He includes, for example, many chartlets not to be found in any other guide. Hence, I was able to find anchorages not well known (and which had, as a result, more lobster!).

Don’t even think of visiting the Exumas without this book (or any other area included in his other guidebooks without its associated book).
