Panama Canal By Cruise Ship: The Complete Guide to Cruising the Panama Canal (2nd Edition)

Panama Canal By Cruise Ship: The Complete Guide to Cruising the Panama Canal (2nd Edition) One of the greatest engineering feats ever, the Panama Canal is becoming one of the world’s most popular cruise itineraries. Ports of call span the Caribbean and the Mexican Riviera, but the highlight of the cruise is the eight-hour transit of the Canal in which six massive locks raise and lower the ship 85 feet. Read about the monumental construction of the Canal as well as the history, culture, flora and fauna of this tropical region. Detail provided on popular ports, from Florida to California. Over 400 maps and photos most in color. Includes giant color fold out map of Panama Canal
Customer Review: A must for anyone going on a Panama Canal cruise!
I bought this book prior to a Panama Canal cruise not just for the cruise information but also because of the extensive amount of history covering the Panama Canal, including how it was built and the political involvement in making it happen. The details and background on the canal are outstanding.

What I didn’t expect to find was not only information about the ports of call in Panama, but information about every possible port of call on a Panama Canal cruise. Whether you sail from Florida to California or any other path, your ports are covered in this book. Know what to purchase in Costa Rica, know where to sightsee in Cozumel, and know where the locals will be waving at your ship as you pass through the canal. A must have guide for every canal cruise, and a great guide for the Caribbean and Mexico as well.
Customer Review: MIL seemed to like it.
Purchased this book for my mother-in-law. She seemed to like it. They are taking a trip there, so it made a good gift. Have not read the book myself.

Carry on Cruising

Carry on Cruising Customer Review: The Most Charming In The Series
Carry On Cruising (1962) saw the series transferred into colour but the one thing missing from this is the large number of regulars absent from it - theres no Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims or Hattie Jaques. Yet surprisingly this does emerge as an enjoyable, entertaining entry in the long-running series. The action of course is set aboard a Mediterranean cruise liner (well actually it was all filmed at PineWood Studios) with the inept and typically incompentent crew under the strict command of the serious and uptight Captain Crowther, who is played marvelously by Sid James. Things all come to a climax when the crew plan a surprise party for the captain who is celebrating his tenth year at sea. This was Norman Hudis’s last script for the series, which is certainly on top form throughout. Amongst the cast include Kenneth Williams, Kenneth Connor (in a fairly typical role), Dilys Laye (taking the role that was origanally written for Joan Sims), Liz Frazer, Lance Percival as a hopelessly sea-sick chef and loveable eccentric Esma Cannon.

Customer Review: THE FIRST CARRY ON TO BE MADE IN COLOUR
Fun and games aboard a Mediterranean cruise liner with the group of passengers and crew members under the command of the strict, no nonsense Captain Crowther (marvelously played by SID JAMES). This was the first entry in the series to be made in colour. There are many laughs along the way although is slightly handicapped by the absence of most of the regulars. Only SID JAMES, KENNETH WILLIAMS and KENNETH CONNOR, the series “official” regulars are present. DILYS LAYE takes on a part origanally written for JOAN SIMS (who was unable to take the part due to illness). LIZ FRAZER (who appeared in many of the early entries) and ESMA CANNON are also on view as well as LANCE PERCIVAL as a hopelessly sea sick chef. On the whole though a good comedy, defintley worth a look.

In Deep Waters: Cruising the Seas (In Deep Waters)

In Deep Waters: Cruising the Seas (In Deep Waters)
Book passage on a deliciously sensual Mediterranean cruise with tour guides Radclyffe and Karin Kallmaker. Poolside, topside, below deck and ship-to-shore–grab a deck chair and feel the temperature climb.

From honeymooning couples to strangers with mutual desires, there are no secrets about what goes on between embarkation, midnight buffets and ports-of-call. Passengers, entertainers, ship’s crew and tour staff explore every inch of each other and their floating paradise. The lounge. The ex’s stateroom. The casino. The little room no one else has realized is so handy, and so private.

It’s like no vacation you’ve ever experienced before when these two adventurous authors lure you into the deep waters where everyone gets wet.
Customer Review: Nice for some easy reading over time
Well, does make you wonder now about those cruises designed for women only…I will say the most pleasant surprise (beyond some of the steamy descriptions of various activities) was some of the stories reprised characters from both authors past books, what a great way just to ‘hear’ from them, even if it was for just a few short pages, clever idea, I hope more show up in Vegas!

I do agree with the other reviewer, not one to read in a single sitting but great here and there for some short story reading.
Customer Review: Who needs plot?
I will give this book 4 stars because it succeeds admirably at being what it wanted: pure “plot what plot” escapism. I don’t generally read anthologies or collections of short stories because I always want to dig deeper, and often end up unsatisfied, but I picked this up on the strength of the authors’ bodies of work, and it was fun.

It clearly contains lots of sex, in a variety of ways, using a variety of techniques and tools, with a variety of partners. I was very entertained at the descriptions of Radclyffe’s spreadsheet, constructed to keep everything straight (as it were). It got a little old to read the book straight through as there isn’t much variation to build in to a girl-meets-girl(s)/girls-have-sex scenario, making a one-seating read border on tiresome, but picking it up to read a story or two a day was fun, and it was delightful to meet some old characters from other books again, which helped lend some depth. In addition there were enough spot-on observations about human psychology, and moments of true emotion, that on the whole it succeeds, and I’m curious about what the next vacation scenario (reportedly on the Las Vegas Strip) will give us.

If you’re looking for plot or character development, this book will not meet your requirements. But if you’re looking for a book that doesn’t require much thought as it romps through numerous bedrooms, you should be satisfied (no pun intended).

Customer Review: Not very in depth guide
This guide only gives basic information about cruising the Virgin Islands. It’s not much better than the free guides that are given out and supported entirely by ads. It only gives information on islands where a commercial interest has supported the write up. It only gives a mention of islands or anchorages where some one is collecting a fee, so if there is a secluded spot that is free you won’t read about it here. It doesn’t provide any critique on establishments so you won’t know if you are walking into the best restaurant on the island or a complete dump. I don’t know if there are better guides for the Virgin Islands but it is a poor example of a cruising guide.
Customer Review: A Magazine…
Did not like the way the author designed the book, full of VI advertising. Artikels are shallow. Hope that the essentials are accurate as I am on may way to the BVIs.
